In 2004 the Galway Lorient Twinning was re-launched with a big Galway weekend in Lorient. The Best of Galway was a big success and introduced contacts and exchanges across a wide variety of voluntary, cultural and business sectors. This was followed by a return visit entitled Bonjour Lorient, which took place in Galway from 4th to the 7th May 2005. This event was also a great success and furthered cemented the ties between the two cities.

In addition to these two great weekends, a group of musicians and dancers travelled from Lorient to Galway to help celebrate and partake in our St. Patrick.s day celebrations. Again, a wonderful time was had by all.
Last year marked the 30th anniversary of the twinning between Galway and Lorient.

For 2006 a number of events are in the pipeline. These include:
- St. Patrick's Day (March 2006) Parade and Fest Nos
- Visit of Galway Choir to Lorient (June 2006)
- Guided Cultural Trip to Lorient/South Brittany (June 2006)
